Please do not open any unsolicited picture files sent to you via Facebook or LinkedIn messenger/mail. The picture file could potentially contain a Locky Ransomware exploit.
(Cyber security investigators @Check Point state that in the past week, they have noticed a "massive spread of the Locky ransomware via social media, particularly in its Facebook-based campaign.") theHackernews.com
Locky ransomware mainly spreads via phishing emails containing malicious attachments disguised as Word or Zip files. But since people are spending considerable time on social network sites, cyber crooks have turned their attention to finding attack vectors into these platforms as well. BTW if you become infected while on your home network; disconnect or disable your WiFi or Ethernet since it has been reported that variants of Locky also have worm like attributes that could potentially discover networked devices.
